15th January 2016 The Canary Islands - Spain(Las Palmas - Gran Canaria - Spanien)

Gran Canaria is one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean which is situated 150 km of the north west coast of Africa. The island is known for its varying climate zones and landscape. These range from golden beaches, while sand dunes rise to green hilly countryside with picturesque villages. One third of the island is under the protection of UNESCO. Most tourists prefer the south and warmer part of the island, whereas the north is much cooler. The east coast is flat with a lot of beaches and the west coast is rocky with cliffs. Las Palmas is the largest city on the Canary Islands with a population of 829.597 (2008).

We docked in Las Palmas. This was the first stop that we used our foldable e-bikes.

The old town was our first stop. Riding through the small narrow streets was a pure pleasure. After visiting the cathedral we made our way back into the town centre to find the tourist office. As e did not have too much time we decided to cycle to the old fishing village of San Cristobal. It was interesting to see the older houses and sea front. On our way back we stopped off in one of the squares surrounded by café´s for a cappuccino and to use the opportunity to collect emails.
